One of the goals in the European Erasmus SWPBS project is to pilot Check-In Check-Out (CICO) intervention, which is already quite widely implemented in Finland, also in Cyprys, Greece and Romania during Spring 2022. In November 2021 Finnish research doctors Anne Karhu and Mika Paananen from the University of Jyväskylä held the first online CICO training for the SWPBS coaches from the partner countries.
In the November training focus was on the universal support development in the participating schools and plans for the CICO field trials were also made. Training participants were the group of enthusiastic and active SWPBS coaches from the partner countries and assistant professor Athanasios Gregoriade from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
In December CICO implementation has moved forward – the English translation of the Finnish CICO handbook has been given out to the partners and they have been assigned the translation of the handbook to their own languages. Translations are due at the start of the field trials. Handbook supports schools’ CICO implementation.
In January CICO training continues with the same coaches. Next training covers tier 2 development in the SWPBS schools via CICO support. There is much work to do and COVID-19 still brings uncertainty to Europe. Next training will also be held remotely as online training for this reason. In spite of these challenges with professional and devoted partners, it is a joy to work on the project and further our common goals!
